10 Things You Don’t Know About Dean Furman

Dean Furman, as known as Deo is a South African midfielder and Supersport united captain. His great confidence, hard work and control in the field of play earned him respect in the world and he still continues to inspire other players. Furman is a great humanitarian off the field and a great soft-spoken gentleman. Below are 10 things you don’t know about Deo.

  1. Furman, is of English-Jewsih descent, was born in the Camps Bay suburb of the city of Cape Town.
  2. Furman, has lived most of his like in the UK and that is where his family is. He admitted that coming to play in SA was a logical decision to keep playing football.
  3. Furman, began his footballing career as a youth team player at Premier League club Chelsea. However, he did not make the breakthrough into the first team and so left the club. He was with Chelsea from 2003 to 2006.
  4. He signed for Rangers on 10 May 2006. Furman was a regular in the reserve side and captained the Under-19 team to the Scotish Youth Cup final in 2007, where they beat Old Firm rivals Celtic.
  5. Furman, received his first international call-up for Bafana Bafana  for a friendly on 19 August 2008 against Australia. He was an unused substitute in that match. Furman earned his first cap for South Africa in a friendly against Brazil on 8 September 2012. Furman earned his first man of the match award in the country’s 2–0 defeat of Mozambique on 11 September 2012.
  6. Furman, has 38 Bafana caps under his belt.
  7. Furman, was named captain of Bafana Bafana ahead of 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan in Durban on 15 November 2014. He played every minute of the finals in Equatorial Guinea, a group stage exit.
  8. After rejecting a contract extension from Doncaster Rovers, on 18 August 2015 Furman signed for South African side, Supersport United on a two-year deal, with an option of a further year.
  9. Furman, has captained Supersport all the way up to be joint leaders of the PSL in 2016/17 season under coach Stuart Baxter.
  10. Furman has not opened talks for a contract extension with Supersport United. It is not clear if he will stay at Supersport or go back to England.
