10 Things You Don’t Know About Kennedy Mweene

Zambian international shot stopper Kennedy Mweene is still in the books fo Mamelodi Sundowns despite speculations that Mweene has asked to be released from Brazilians to go join a team where he will get regular game time. Below are 10 things you do not know about Mweene.

  1. Kennedy Mweene, plays for Mamelodi Sundowns and has been battling for the number one jersey with Denis Onyango and Wayne Sandilands.
  2. Mweene, was part of the team that won the 2012 AFCON and Mweene scored a penalty. Zambia won 8-7 on penalties defeating Ivory Coast.
  3. On 12 February 2012, Mweene kept a clean sheet during the 2012 AFCON and saved one penalty kick (as well as successfully converted his own) in the shootout to decide the game, which was eventually won by Zambia.
  4. Renowned for his penalty-saving and penalty-taking skills, Mweene is arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the moment, winning the PSL Goalkeeper of the Season award (best player in the South African top division) in the 2008-09 season.
  5. Before arriving at Free State Stars, Mweene, was playing for Zambian side Kitwe United in 2004.
  6. The player has been in big demand with all of the big spending clubs in South Africa but remained loyal to Free State Stars until the end of the 2012-13 season.
  7. On 27 June 2013, he agreed to a three-year deal with Mamelodi Sundowns. The player is represented by his business manager Ryan Hartslief of Bigtime Sports management in South Africa.
  8. Mweene, as a goalkeeper is valued at R8m, just below what Itumeleng Khune is worth.
  9. Mweene, has been monitored by Kaizer Chiefs but he has not committed to any deal as he is still waiting to be released by Sundowns after sending a letter to the management.
  10. Mweene, has won both the Nedbank Cup, CAF championship and CAF Super Cup with Mamelodi Sundowns.
