“The appointment comes following the expiration of outgoing coach Dan Malesela’s contract.

“After much deliberation, the club opted to bring in Coach Folz to lead the team into the next phase of the club’s journey.

Marumo Gallant’s Chairman Abram Sello stated:
“‘We welcome Coach Romain Folz to the team, he brings an impressive and energetic approach to football that we believe will be a great fit for Marumo Gallants”.

“Folz officially takes over the role of Gallant’s coach from the end of June 2022.

“‘I am very happy and honoured to join Marumo Gallants F.C. and a league such as the PSL. My first words are for our fans. I can only tell them that all the efforts and work we will put in every single day is for them. We want to make them proud, and I will dedicate all my time and energy to reach that goal,’ said Folz.”

MALESELA WAS SHOCKED AFTER THE CLUB LET HIM GO

Just like all football enthusiasts in South Africa, Malesela was shocked that the club decided against renewing his contract. Why? In just less than six months since he joined them, he reached the Nedbank Cup final although he lost to Mamelodi Sundowns. That’s not too bad for the lowly Gallants.

Malesela says he and the club had an agreement in principle of the contract renewal, he and the players were surprised that he was suddenly leaving.

“This thing is very difficult for me because I don’t know the reasons the club opted not to renew my contract. I have not spoken to the chairman. He is not responding to my calls. I really don’t know the real reason behind this. I am surprised as you are,” Malesela said as per Soccer Laduma.

“In actual fact, I think in principle we agreed (to a new contract). Whether there was a change or not on what we agreed on is something else because I was never told anything. I picked this up from a neighbour, who sent me this letter that was posted (on social media).

“I think it’s a miscalculation of sorts because I don’t think things were done properly. If things were done properly, they would have first consulted me to say this is the situation and these are the reasons. If they are no reasons and they said we just needed a change, they probably could have said that to me. So, I am also surprised.

“It’s disappointing because now I have to start afresh. It sets me back because you never know what’s going to happen. I work hard for that and now the hard work has gone to waste. It’s not only me who is surprised and disappointed. The players are not happy. They were all shocked. They are thinking it’s me, but it’s not me. It’s just a shock I got from the club, when I had already planned for the new season.”
