Do S.A footballer’s need financial lessons ?

Jomo Sono recently torched a storm after suggesting that South African footballers often die poor owing to bad financial decisions made in the course of their careers.

Flashy cars and unaffordable lifestyles often leave footballers stranded when they hang their boots.

Teko Modise has in the past made the headlines for having his house repossessed together with his cars after failing to keep up with installments. Another case in point is former Orlando Pirates defender Zvenyika Makonese who has ended up becoming a bus conductor owing to poor financial decision during his days with Orlando Pirates.

In an interview with ANN7 Moeneeb Josephs highlighted how the modern footballer often gets sucked into living lavish lifestyles, as a way of confirming the role that poor financial decisions have in the failure of many great players.

Given the sensitivity of financial issues one can’t help but assume that only the clubs can assist players by ensuring they are given financial lessons.
