Former Bafana Star Junaid Hartley Opens Up About Drug Abuse And Homelessness! Sadly, another once great football star is now trying to pick up the pieces after carelessly spending his wealth.

36 year old Hartley had a great career but that all changed after retirement when he found himself doing drugs and eventually lost everything forcing him to become homeless.

“I was living on the street and thought to myself that enough is enough. There was no going lower,” he said. The former Ajax Cape Town star revealed that he was admitted to a drug rehabilitation centre back in January where he got kicked out after 30 days.

“I was very disruptive during my stay there. I would find myself kicking things around, anything I could find.”

Now Hartley is picking up the pieces and getting back on his fit thanks to his football career. He now coaches the under-11 team at the Education Through Soccer Academy (Etsa) in Ruimsig, West of Joburg.

“I would like to give back to the community, I need to give back to the game. It’s something I should have done a long time ago,” he said.
