The Once Greatest PSL Goalkeepers And Now Goalkeeper Coaches

The goalkeeper is not just an easy role to play and yet we blame keepers when they make mistakes and let the team down. But keepers are always acknowledged when they pull penalty saves and produce world class saves and that is no exception in the PSL as it has happened in the past and currently. We take a look at the top once great keepers and now sharing their skills for teams they once played for or played against.

Brian Baloyi Goalkeeper coach for Kaizer Chiefs

1.Jersey number 16 rose to fame through one man and that is Brian ‘spiderman’ Baloyi in the colors of Kaizer Chiefs. He could jump high and he was also able to save penalties for Amakhosi and Mamelodi Sundowns. Now Baloyi is back at Kaizer Chiefs since 2015 and he is working as a goalkeeper coach for the Naturena based side.He mentors Itumeleng Khune and Brilliant Khuzwayo just to mention a few.

2.Rowen Fernandez, rose to fame playing for Kaizer Chiefs. He has played in Germany and for Bidvest Wits upon his return. He joined Pirates as goalkeeper coach in 2015. He currently mentors Jackson Mabokgwane and Brighton Mhlongo.

3.Andre Arendse, the greatest Bafana Bafana keeper without a doubt. The Cape Town born star now works for Bidvest Wits as goalkeeper coach and works with Moneeb Josephs and Darren Keet. He has also been a co-presenter for Supersport.

4.Mamelodi Sundowns elevated Wendell Robinson to the first team as goalkeeper coach,  adding value and experience to Pitso Mosimane’s technical bench in the 2015/16 season. The former Sundowns shot-stopper has been training the aspiring keepers at the club in recent times. He works with Denis Onyango, Kennedy Mweene and Wayne Sandilands.

5.Stuart Baxter’s son, Lee Baxter is goalkeeper coach Supersport United since 2016. The son joined the team mid 2016 and works with Ronwen Williams and Reyaad Pieterse.
