Igesund: “The Team Is Lacking Confidence At The Moment”

Gordon Igesund is confident that his team will get back on track, as he assures the club’s supporters have no reason to worry. Super Sport United were regarded as a team that will fight for the Absa Premiship league this season, after they made major signings in Bongani Khumalo and Dean Furman.

However, Matsatsantsa a pitori find themselves sitting at position 13 in the log after six matches with 5 points.

SuperSport will play against Polokwane City today at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Igesund will be hoping that they start their Telkom Knockout title defence on a positive note.

“We haven’t started the way we wanted to start,” Igesund says to KickOff.

“Certain teams started better and certain teams are expected to do well but are still trying to find their feet. My message to supporters, don’t panic. It’s disappointing but stick around the team, we will get better.”

“We are not going to point fingers. We must stick as a team, keep working. I believe in them and they have to start to believe in themselves. We will keep working hard, we will keep pushing.

“What we really need to do is get good results in the Telkom and try to defend our title properly and that might bring us on, get back the confidence.

“The team is lacking confidence at the moment and not because of other reasons but they are desperate to win.

“They keep reading newspapers about what a fantastic team they are, the best team and I tell them they must not believe it.

“If we were the best team we would be on top of the log. We are not the best team but a team with a lot of quality. We need to get together and become a team.

“Individually we have players who can play but right now we are not playing with unity,” concludes the SuperSport United coach.
