“I Blew My Money On Women And Cars,” Admits Broke Chabangu

Whilst current soccer stars seem to be wiser in investing their money and starting other businesses whilst they’re still relevant, the same can’t be said for the previous generation of local soccer stars. “I Blew My Money On Women And Cars,” Admits Broke Chabangu!

One former star who has learnt the hard way is Lerato Chabangu who has fallen from grace with nothing left to his name. The 32 year old admitted to Sowetan that his situation has gotten bad that he has moved into his grandmother’s home in Tembisa.

“I blew all my money on useless things because I was always guaranteed a salary the following month. We used to finish training by 11am and thereafter you are free to do whatever you want. We would go to Shisanyama after training and chill there over a few drinks and it just became a habit,” he said.

Now Chabangu is pleading with the PSL to give him another chance. The striker says he lost his house in Boksburg and had his car repossessed after failing to keep up with repayments.

Chabangu says women and booze were his main weaknesses. “I separated from my wife because of financial issues and I do not see my daughter anymore because she is with her mother.

“I have made many mistakes in my life and I feel I have learned my lessons. Things are tough and I am not the kind of person who likes to beg. I have nothing left. Football is all I know and I hope there’s someone out there who can give me another chance.”
