Ajax Cape Town Launch Plea To PSL For Official Name Change!

Ajax Cape Town Launch Plea To PSL For Official Name Change! This is following the dramatic abortion from the Ajax franchise. The Dutch giants have completely cut ties with Ajax Cape Town. This is after a 21-year relationship between Ajax Cape Town and Ajax Amsterdam.

Ajax Cape Town will officially be taken over by minority stakeholders Cape Town Spurs. The news was announced yesterday when the news of the divorce was revealed. The transaction will happen no later than Thursday the 1st of October.

Unlike the dramatic club turnovers we witnessed with Highlands Park and Bidvest University, Cape Town Spurs will remain the same organisation with the same employees.

The club will undergo a total makeover though. They will change their name, badge, logo, kit and colours. They will need to acquire their own sponsors as well. A huge job for the men responsible.

Ajax Cape Town launched an application to the PSL for an official name change.

“Cape Town Stars (Pty) Ltd, the minority shareholder which has reached an agreement to take full control of Ajax Cape Town as of 1 October, has launched an official application with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to rename the franchise.” The club said in a statement.

“The Cape Town club is set to be rebranded and renamed Cape Town Spurs once the application process is approved.

Spurs and Seven Stars merged in 1999 to form Ajax Cape Town and it is the new owners intent to adopt the Cape Town Spurs name which remains well known within the South African football community.”

This follows the several amounts of changes the current close season is enduring. Clubs like Highlands Park, Bidvest Wits and the PSL itself are also organisations going through name changes. These changes would likely require some getting used to amongst punters who bet on local soccer leagues on popular platforms like Betway South Africa.

The Premier Soccer League is unlikely to disapprove the application as Ajax Cape Town launch plea to PSL for official name change!

A longtime punter-favorite at Betway South Africa, Ajax Cape Town was formed in October 1998 through the merger of two well established Cape Town clubs namely; Seven Stars Football Club and Cape Town Spurs Football Club. Rob Moore, the Chairman and owner of Seven Stars Football Club went to Ajax Amsterdam to conclude the transfer of Benni McCarthy from Seven Stars to Ajax Amsterdam. During the transfer talks the board of Ajax Amsterdam indicated that they would like to establish a Football Development Academy in South Africa where they could source and develop players with the possibility of finding another “Benni McCarthy”.

A blue print was developed for the Football Development Academy as discussed with the Ajax Amsterdam board. The blue print was accepted by the Amsterdam board and Rob Moore returned to Cape Town charged with initiating the establishment of the Academy. After careful consideration Rob Moore invited Cape Town Spurs FC to join this exciting venture. The establishment of Ajax Cape Town caused ripples in the proposed formation of the new club faced opposition from the National Soccer League.

Ajax Cape Town has been bold in its decision to constantly promote young players into the senior professional squad and allow them to gain valuable experience. At the same time the players have shown that they are ready for the jump both technically and mentally and credit must be given to the entire technical team who train and prepare the boys so admirably.

Besides football, the Club also believes in striving to develop the academic and social qualities of its players. In the modern world players need to present themselves professionally at all times and a solid educational background is becoming increasingly essential, not only for the players but also the communities.

Ajax Cape Town ensures that all its youth players receive a good education by monitoring their progress at school. In 2015, Ajax Cape Town introduced Bruce Nadin, National Director of Sports Chaplancey, South Africa to ensure that all the players at the academy receive life skills.
