Agent – Castro ‘Wants To Stay’ In SA, however, Chances Are Slim

The manager of Leonardo Castro, Baber Siddique has revealed that his client would like to stay in South Africa and they have been seeking opportunities but nothing has come his way. The Columbian was one of the nine players that were released by Amakhosi last of last week.

Castro’s contract with Chiefs was going to end on 30 June but the Glamour Boys opted to not extend his stay as they’re in a process of constructing a new and fresh squad for the newly appointed coach Arthur Zwane.

Besides, Castro’s form has heavily dropped and his recent performances were not enough to convince ‘10111’ that the 33-year-old forward can deliver for Amakhosi. This season, the former Mamelodi Sundowns striker played 14 games across all competitions and never scored a single goal.

Castro’s agent says if he gets the club, he’ll have to apply for permanent residence since he qualifies for one as he has played almost seven years in SA. “He didn’t acquire permanent residence. If he signs under any club then he will apply for permanent residence and play as a South African,” Siddique, his manager told KickOff.

However, he would demand a salary close to what he was earning at Chiefs. That will be difficult! “For him to stay in South Africa it should be with any club that can offer him a reasonable contract closer to what he was getting at Chiefs,” he added.

“Apart from that, Leo also wants to stay here for the sake of his children’s education plus his wife likes South Africa so she prefers to stay here which is why we all want him to stay here.

“We have engaged a few clubs but some other clubs have full foreign spaces so they cannot take him,” says Siddique.

CASTRO NAMES TWO PSL TEAMS HE WOULD LIKE TO JOIN

Castro recently had an interview with Robert Marawa at the Marawa Sports Worldwide and revealed the names of the clubs he would like to join. He says he would like to experience CAF Champions League again. Castro was part of the Kaizer Chiefs squad that reached the Champions League final in the 2020/21 season and lost 2-0 to Al Ahly in Morocco.

The two teams that qualified for the club’s continental competition are Sundowns and Cape Town City and Castro revealed he would love to sign for any of the two. He left Downs for Chiefs in 2017 and it would be complicated to rejoin them as they have almost all they want in front of goals.

“There is nothing confirmed for me yet and I’m looking for the best option for my family. My first option is South Africa,” said Castro in an interview with Robert Marawa.

“I’m very grateful to be in South Africa, it’s like my second home. I have been here for six-and-a-half years with my family. We have been comfortable and we love the culture and people here.”

“I would like to play the Champions League again. The only teams I can play for at this point would be Sundowns. Cape Town City would be another option,” added Castro.
