CAF Champions League Draw On Tonight

South African Premier League champions Mamelodi Sudowns will be in Pot 2 of Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League Draw on tonight in Cairo, Egypt.

Masandawana seem unfazed in their approach to staking a claim to being African Champions for the second time under Pitso Mosimane having won their maiden continental title in 2016.

Mosimane has voiced his concern on how teams are seeded and the points accumulation format used by CAF as not being open and transparent.

“You don’t have a specific rule on how teams accumulate (ranking) points. I would expect CAF to publish these rules so that we know,” Mosimane said.

Mosimane will have no chance to renew his rivalry with former Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic in the group stages as the Serbian now at Zamalek is in the same pot with Sundowns.

Mamelodi Sundowns club spokesman Alex Shakoane says they are ready for any team ahead of the 2019/20 Caf Champions League group stage draw.

“There are no longer smaller teams in Africa hence all teams must punch above their weight,” alluded Shakoane highlighting the club’s positive approach and also bid to avoid complacency amongst his troops.

Sundowns could be drawn against Egyptian giants Al Ahly, DR Congolese champion TP Mazembe and Tunisian side Esperance de Tunis.

Sundowns are making an impressive fourth successive appearance in the group stage of the competition.

The group stage qualification for Sundowns came on the back of a historic win as they beat Seychelle’s Cote d’Or 11-1 in Pretoria which shattered the record for the biggest win in the premier African club competition.
