Steven Pienaar Reveals The Best Player He’s Played With! A week ago, the former Bafana Bafana captain announced his retired from professional football though he hinted at remaining in the football world.
Pienaar had a great career in Europe playing for the likes of Ajax Amsterdam, Borussia Dortmund, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. Asked who throughout his career is the best player he played with, the 35 year old chose his Everton teammate Leighton Baines.
Speaking to evertonfc.com, shared the friendship he had on and off the pitch with Baines.
“Even on the training pitch we would be together and we just enjoyed ourselves, played the way we want to. He had a lot of trust in me, when to give me the ball and when not to, and the other way, too. I think that is why it worked because we trusted each other, the belief was there and we worked for each other. He is also a funny guy, too,” Pienaar said.
“For me to make passes I needed someone to move for me and that is what Bainesy did, and I think he made me a more mature player.”
