Stellenbosch FC lost to Sekhukhune United on penalties in their Nedbank Cup semi-final on Sunday afternoon. Head coach Steve Barker was let down by the cup exit.

The game ended scoreless after 90 minutes and after extra time, which signaled spot kicks. Babina Noko won 4-3 on penalties.

“Obviously a bit disappointed, not to have got through to the final.” Barker told SuperSport TV.

“Penalty shootouts are always difficult, so it could have gone either way. Not to be, but at the same time, we have to be proud as a football club, that we were able to reach this far in the tournament.

“We took it all the way to the wire, just fine margins at the end of the day. A little bit in the match, maybe one or two moments where we could have been a bit more clinical.

“I thought it was a tough game, all the way. I thought they had their chances; we had our chances. Hopefully though it was a 0-0 game, it was an entertaining game.

“They are a good, experienced side, it also showed in their penalties. Disappointed, but at the same time we also have to hold our heads up high.

“Chest out, shoulders high, we’ve still got two league games that we need to complete. We need to pick ourselves up and be ready for those two matches.” He spoke
