Liverpool Winning Run Halted At Old Trafford

Premier League leaders Liverpool’s winning start to the season was brought to a halt as they drew 1-1 against fierce rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Reds dropped points but still remain unbeaten in the league this season and lead the way with a 6 point cushion over defending Premier League champions Manchester City ).

It means, with 17 straight victories, the top-flight leaders fall just short of the Premier League record set by City (18) in 2017.

Strangely Old Trafford remains the only Premier League ground Jürgen Klopp has not won at as Liverpool manager – four draws and a defeat.

The leaders’ run of league wins ends at eight for this campaign and 17 overall  ensuring that Chelsea’s record of winning their first nine Premier League games in the 2005-06 season, remains in tact.

But ultimately it was Liverpool who went home feeling that momentum remains with them, despite the end of a long winning run where Manchester United were the better team for long period against a strangely tepid, out of sorts Liverpool team.

Marcus Rashford 36th minute opener gave United the lead despite VAR controversy after what seemed like a clear foul on Divick Origi by Victor Lindelof in the build up to the Manchester goal.

Adam Lallana secured the equaliser against the run of play from a low cross by Andy Robertson.

Jurgen Klopp was furious that Rashford’s opener was allowed to stand and also criticised Manchester United for their defensive approach.

“They just defend, It is no criticism. It’s just a fact.” said Klopp
