Terry: “Wayne Rooney England’s highest record goalscorer in the history of our game.”

Wayne Rooney has had national media criticism due to indifferent performances in games and almost everyone agreed with the media.

Former England captain John Terry has stepped up to defend Rooney.

Wayne Rooney has scored 47 goals for England – two behind Sir Bobby Charlton's record of 49

The huge debate is behind why Rooney is being used as a deep midfield role when he’s actually been considered as one of the best forwards in the country, the criticism has lead to Wayne being dropped to bench under interim Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.

Wayne was also booed by England fans at Wembley towards the end of their 2-0 victory against Malta on Saturday.

While Rooney’s unfortunate absence from starting XI against Slovenia will be watched closely by fans and critics on Tuesday, Terry weighed in with his opinion on Instagram and asking everyone to give Wayne a chance.

Terry reminds everyone that Wayne is one of the best players to come out of England and is basically a football legend.
