12 Goal PSL Weekend Thriller

Another weekend packed with goals, win and loss was what characterized PSL this past weekend. It was raining goals and surprises and no fixture was predictable. Cape Town City took everyone by surprise on Friday evening defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 at Athlone Stadium. Thanks to a goal from leading PSL scorer, Lebogang Manyama.

If there is anyone who has the number to beat Sundowns, that is Manyama. The captain was there to make a mark and his mark was witnessed by thousands of South Africans when he punished Sundowns from a cross from Lehlohonolo Majoro. From the first half, Sundowns was chasing the game as crosses from Tebogo Langerman could not be materialized by Percy Tau nor Sibusiso Vilakazi. Cape Town City handed Sundowns their third loss of the season and Eric Tinkler in a post match interview admitted that he has his eyes on the PSL title and he is a title contender. City now sit on top of the table with 38 points.

The Soweto derby on the other hand ended one all draw. Kaizer Chiefs took the game to their advantage with an early goal from Joseph Molongoane but still in the first half, Chiefs plunged a knife to their own heart with an own goal from Tshepo Masilela. Fans expected a draw but the two goals gave the fans something to cheer about and both Itumeleng Khune and Brighton Mhlongo where heroes of their respective sides after coming to the game to produce world class saves. Chiefs are now fourth on the table with 34 points and Pirates moved a place down to 11th on the table with 22 points. There is now 10 games left for the season for most of the teams in the PSL and others have games in hand but there is more to play and more surprises to look out for.
