’21 Goals In Six Years’ -Fans To Erasmus Following His Tweet On Hugo Broos’ Statement

’21 Goals In Six Years’ -Fans To Erasmus Following His Tweet On Hugo Broos’ Statement. Hugo Broos’ criticism of the South African League and its players was harsh in a way that Kermit Erasmus failed to keep quiet as he responded with an insolent question. Erasmus’ tweet sparked controversy, with others siding with Broos while some were questioning Romeo’s quality.

“Why do we have a coach that doesn’t believe in our talent and league. Sorry for thinking out loud,” Erasmus tweeted.

Perhaps one comment that annoyed the Mamelodi Sundowns striker was when one Twitter user @Bra_Lesole commented, “21 goals in six years. What a talent”. This statement simply questions the quality of Erasmus as a striker and surely the fan must be siding with Broos.

Erasmus didn’t hold back as he responded by question to this comment, “What’s your talent?”. The Twitter user said, “I can score goals” which means he can do what Erasmus can’t do. Some told Erasmus to be easy on the person who commented.

When it comes to representing the national team, Erasmus fell out of favour under Broos as the coach insisted that he wanted to utilize the players who play regularly. Well, the former SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates striker hardly plays 90 minutes for Sundowns.

Another factor to his snub might be being out of form as he hasn’t been at the same level as he was in Cape Town City before Sundowns’ stint. While age factor also comes into the picture with Broos calling up mostly under 30 years of age players and Erasmus being 31.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT ERASMUS?

Born and raised in Port Elizabeth that’s mainly known as Gqeberha, Erasmus moved to Pretoria when his talent was identified by SuperSport United in 2007. At the time United had many promising youngsters including Daine Klate, Masibusane Zongo, Kamohelo Mokotjo, etc.

He was promoted to the first team in 2008 and made his Bafana debut in a match against their neighbours Zimbabwe. In 2009, an opportunity to play in Europe came his way when he moved to Feyenoord who loaned him to Excellsior before he came back to Matsatsantsa.

UTILITY PLAYER FOR PIRATES AND CAREER OVERSEAS

It was in 2013 when Pirates secured his services and he played a huge role when they left footmarks in the CAF Confederation Cup. His fine performances at Buccaneers caught an eye in France when Rennes signed him.

Other clubs he played for before he came back to SA were Lens (France), AFC Eskilstuna (Sweeden), Vitoria de Setubal (Portugal).

A RETURN TO SA

In 2019, the ambitious owner of Cape Town City convinced Erasmus to return to the local game and he served the Cape Town-based team with flying colours before he joined Masandawana in 2021. In this recently ended campaign, Erasmus played 17 games and scored four goals for the treble winners.
