Ancelotti: Real want revenge
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti admits his side will be out for revenge when they face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.
The two Madrid neighbours met in the final of last season’s competition, where the Galacticos secured a 4-1 extra-time victory to lift a record 10th European Cup crown.
However, Atletico have been far more clinical this term, going undefeated in the six matches they have played against their city rivals (W4, D2), with their biggest success coming in the form of a 4-0 thrashing in La Liga in their most recent meeting in February.
Ancelotti admits Real will be looking to avenge that loss when the two local teams resume hostilities at Vicente Calderon in the first leg of their last-eight clash on Tuesday.
“The last result against Atletico is a motivating factor for us. It will be a different game, but difficult as it always is against Atletico,” Ancelotti said after his side closed the gap on league leaders Barcelona to two points with a 3-0 win over Eibar on Saturday.
“We come into the game in good form, we are motivated and we will give everything we have.”
