Hunt: Jordan can play in Europe

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt believes young midfielder Liam Jordan has the required quality to make the switch to European football.

The teenager, who is the son of former Bafana Bafana international Keryn Jordan, was recently promoted to the Clever Boys’ first-team squad this term, despite his tender years.

And, while he is not expected to make an impact this season, Hunt is expecting the midfielder’s ‘huge quality’ to shine through in the not-too-distant future.

“I said it when I saw him a year ago that he is a player that can play in Europe and he should leave,” Hunt told Football411.

“I always look at a player and see if he can play in Europe and that’s the first thing I always say and he is a player that can play in Europe.

“There’s not many of those in South Africa but he’s got the attributes.”

“He he’s got all the basics, things that I look for and like. He can strike a ball, he can pass a ball, and the technique is brilliant you know.

“He can play in tight areas, small areas which is what you want. The best players in the world can play in small areas. And he can do that and he’s got it, he’s got huge ability.”

Hunt even went so far as to suggest that the club would be actively seeking to facilitate a move to Europe for the youngster.

He added: “It’s certain that he can’t stay here, we got to move him.”

Hunt also compared Liam to his father, Keryn, who passed away two years ago, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

When asked if he thought Liam was the better footballer, Hunt said: “Yeah, yeah… absolutely.

“I mean Keryn played for me too and he was a fantastic goalscorer, but totally different types of players.

“But this boy, I don’t think he’d be upset with what I’m saying but he is a better footballer than his father was.”
