Roger De Sa: “Sundowns Are Individually Better Than Chiefs”
Ajax Cape Town coach Roger de Sa Speaking to trusts Mamelodi Sundowns are a better side than Kaizer Chiefs, and bets on them to win the Premiership. The Urban Warriors are still on a celebrating mode after their MTN8 Cup Final win against Amakhosi on Saturday, yet fears the tough test ahead of them as they prepare to face Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday then, will face Chiefs on Saturday for the Absa Premiership.
“We’re coming up against two top teams – Sundowns obviously have great expectations and ambitions, and straight after that Chiefs, who probably have a lot of revenge on their minds,” De Sa tells Kickoff.com.
“It’s two games soon after the Final, within seven games, makes it very difficult.”
Ajax travel to the nation’s capital to face the Brazilians on Wednesday evening, and De Sa expects a tougher test than the weekend’s encounter against Chiefs despite Sundowns’ inconsistent start to this year’s League campaign.
“I think Sundowns are individually a better team than Chiefs,” he says, adding that he expects them to be determined to defeat Ajax.
“They’re a team that’s struggling a bit and want to achieve a bit more than what they have, and probably see a fantastic opportunity [against Ajax] to get their show on the road.
“Individually their players are fantastic. It hasn’t gone their way and they’ve had a few not-so-good results, but I still think they will finish top of the League. They have immense quality and depth, and their home turf is a difficult place to go to, so it’ll be very, very tough.
“For us, we just have to show that it was no fluke with this trophy.”
De Sa adds that his side, too, have revenge on their minds as they look to avenge last season’s Nedbank Cup Final loss against Pitso Mosimane’s men.
“The memory of the Nedbank Cup is still pretty fresh, so we’ve got to try get things right,” concludes De Sa.
The match Between Ajax Capetown vs Mamelodi Sundowns is scheduled for 19:30 at the Lucas Moripe stadium.
