“I want to be like Mourinho”, says Benni McCarthy
Former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy says he dreams of becoming a successful manager and possibly emulate Jose Mourinho. “I want to become like Mourinho how he was at Porto, young sensational manager and then go on to become very special” said McCarthy.
Benni who is currently the Assistant coach at St Truiden in Belgium made the remarks during an interview with FIFA TV recently.
McCarthy also revealed he has fond memories of being the first player to score for South Africa at the Fifa world cup hosted by France in 1998.
“I never thought I would play in a world cup, it was an incredible moment, the biggest stage when it comes to world football, for me it was special. To score against Peter Schmichael was special because it was the first goal ever scored by South Africa in a world cup and yes it was me, I was on top of the world”, said McCarthy.
