Mamelodi Sundowns MDC Champions 2016/17

Mamelodi Sundowns are Multichoice Diski Challenge champions for the 2016/17 season after runners up in the past two seasons since the inception of the tournament. Sundowns beat Cape Town City 4-1 to win the title. The victory was an ease one after City did not come to the party and Sundowns cruised through. The Brazilians reserve side is inspired by the Sundowns first team who won the CAF Super cup last week.

The MDC challenge is a great factor to the South African football scene and young stars have emerged from the tournament with the likes of Menzi Masuku, Sibusiso Sibeko and Percy Tau among the list of great stars who emerged fully fleshed from the MDC challenge. Previous winners of the title Golden Arrows failed to defend their throne as it is now won by Mamelodi Sundowns.

The MDC is very competitive league and it is encourages young players not only in the tournament itself to be active citizens but it encourages citizens to follow sports too. This is done through different parts of the country hosting the tournament and people being entertained by great football and beautiful goals. However, the tournament this has a lot that still needs to be improved off the field and that includes things like commentating which not only should it be young sports presenters but it needs presenters who are articulate and confident. The officiating of matches has been great and we saw a young 18 year old referee taking the whistle and doing a stellar job.

MDC champoins Mamelodi Sundowns have time to celebrate but they need to come back later this year to defend their throne in the 2017/18 season. Follow MDC to be entertained and support great football.
