Amajita’s World Cup dreams come crashing down.
South Africa’s under-20 Amajita’s hopes of qualifying the knockout stages came crashing down, after suffering a 2-0 defeat against Italy in their second group game. The Italians were the dominant side from the kickoff.
The Italians were physically stronger than our lads, and they used this advantage by using the flanks and putting in those crosses looking for their tall strikers. Mondli Mpoto pulled of some amazing saves, one from Panico who forced a save just six minutes into the game.
Italy’s dominance soon paid off after being awarded a penalty after 22 minutes when Wiseman was adjudged to have brought down Ricardo Orsolini, who stepped up and converted the penalty. Italy doubled their lead in the 57th minute through Favilli who headed the ball into the back of the net.
Amajita continued to struggle and posed no threat to the Italians, their only meaningful chance was through Luther Singh free kick which was saved by the Italian keeper.
