Real Madrid`s Sixty-fourth anniversary of first European Cup triumph

Real Madrid’s legacy in the competition began on 13 June 1956, when the team overcame Stade de Reims in the final (4-3).On 13 June 1956, Real Madrid secured the club’s first-ever European Cup in a historic encounter against Stade de Reims. Paris’s Parc des Princes witnessed a thrilling final, in which the French side raced into a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes. Di Stéfano and Rial struck to level the contest before the break, but Hidalgo found the net in the 62nd minute to restore the lead for Stade de Reims. Our team began our European legacy with a comeback in the final stages thanks to goals from Marquitos and Rial, who bagged a brace.

In this first edition, Real Madrid made their European Cup debut against Servette on 8 September 1955 in Geneva. Miguel Muñoz notched the madridistas’ first goal in that campaign in a 2-0 away success. The side’s opponents in the subsequent rounds were Partizan and AC Milan.

Sixty-four years on from that final, Real Madrid are the European Cup‘s most decorated club with 13 trophies to our name. The Whites are also the side to have featured in the most editions (50), recorded the most victories (262) and scored the most goals (972).
