Thembinkosi Lorch Arrested for Assaulting Girlfriend
Thembinkosi Lorch arrested for assaulting girlfriend. The Orlando Pirates midfielder was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning. Girlfriend Nokuphiwa Mathithibala opened a case of assault against the player on Sunday evening.
Allegedly, Nokuphiwa had questioned Lorch’s whereabouts after disappearing for approximately 6 hours. The couple had just had both their cars washed before the Pirates man vanished.
Upon returning, Lorch was faced with questions about his whereabouts. This is when he reacted violently; forcing Mathithibala onto the ground and strangling her.
She was allegedly saved by a friend, who was present on the scene and provided details of the awful event.
The police arrested Lorch in the wee hours of Monday morning at his Midrand residence. To the surprise of many, Lorch was charged with R2000 bail. A fee he swiftly paid.
Lorch is now back at his residence. He is due to appear in court on the 18th of October.
“It is reported that the suspect physically assaulted the complainant after a verbal exchange between the two, and the victim was allegedly rescued by the suspect’s friend who was present at the time of the incident that is related to domestic,” said Provincial Police Spokesperson Kay Makhubele.
“Police in the early hours of Monday arrested the player for allegedly assaulting a woman at his place of residence in Midrand” added Kay Makhubele.
This comes in the wake of mass GBV (Gender Based Violence) protests in the country. Lorch became a cult hero after scoring the winner for Bafana Bafana against Egypt in the 2019 AFCON finals. His status in the South African public is surely about to hit a trough.
