Weekend Recap as DSTV Premiership Officially Kicks Off! The PSL finally made its league return over the weekend. The DSTV Premiership made its long-awaited start, and it was terrific!
The biggest fixture of the weekend saw Kaizer Chiefs host Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium. Chiefs went into the fixture buoyed by their 2-1 win over Maritzburg United last weekend.
Mamelodi Sundowns on the other hand lost at home to Bloemfontein Celtic last weekend. The early season form went out the window as Mamelodi Sundowns comfortably dispatched of Kaizer Chiefs.
Mamelodi Sundowns beat Gavin Hunt’s Chiefs 3-0. Strikers Peter Shalulile and Kermit Erasmus both scored their first goals for the club.
The current Footballer of The Year Themba Zwane wrapped up the victory for Mamelodi Sundowns. It was an astute performance for Sundowns’ new coaching team.
New look AmaZulu held Orlando Pirates at home in KZN. Gabadinho Mhango carried on were he left off last season as he gave the Buccaneers the lead.
Lehlohonolo Majoro equalised for Usuthu in the first half. AmaZulu were the far happier side with a point.
SuperSport United saw off Black Leopards b two goals to nil. A Bradley Grobler brace was enough to defeat Lidoda Duvha.
Onismor Bhasera’s sending off did not cost SuperSport United any points.
Other results saw Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila draw at home to fellow new boy’s TS Galaxy. Stellenbosch and Moroka Swallows also played out to a 1-1 draw in the Western Cape.
Cape Town City drew 1-1 at home to Chippa United. Bloemfontein Celtic also drew 1-1 at home to Golden Arrows.
