Orlando Pirates Record First League Win of The Season!
Orlando Pirates Record First League Win of The Season! The Buccaneers recorded their first league win of the season over Bloemfontein Celtic. This cam courtesy of a lovely Ndlovu strike.
After drawing their first two league games of the season, Orlando Pirates defeated Bloemfontein Celtic to grab their first three points of the season.
This was Pirates’ first game without Coach Josef Zinnbauer after the German coach returned to his home country following the reported car crash his 24-year-old son was involved in.
Fadlu Davids showed his tactical acumen as his substitutes influenced the game. Paseka Mako and Siphesihle Ndlovu came off the bench to combine for the only goal of the game.
David exclaimed that the game was all about the three points.
“It was about the points and I think that’s what the boys did in the second half especially. Once we made the changes, we took control of the game and ja we deservedly win,” he told SuperSport TV.
“You could see they were much fresher, much sharper to the ball. Our fatigue really, with the intensive match against Kaizer Chiefs.
“You could see in the first half going into the second half we were too slow; we were too slow to the ball. Too slow with our passing and it was not really as it should be.
“Definitely the substitutes came in and made a difference, a bit more aggressive in midfield, a bit more direct in attack. It was not about pretty football tonight.”
Orlando Pirates take on Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday in the MTN 8 second leg. They have a couple of injury concerns regarding Thembinkosi Lorch and Terrence Dzvukamanja.
“That is, it, we have to second guess now a decision to stick with a similar team knowing that it was an intensive game against Kaizer Chiefs.
“Now with injuries, Lorch it doesn’t look good, but we’ll get the information from the doctors after the game,” Davids concluded.
