Italy World Cup Legend Paolo Rossi Passes Away! He will forever be remembered for his displays at the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain.
Rossi went into the World Cup on the back of a 3 year football ban. The ban was later reduced to two years, meaning that he was allowed to participate in the World Cup finals.
He represented five clubs in his Serie A career. He played for Vicenzia, Perugia, Juventus, AC Milan and Chievo Verona.
He scored over 100 goals in the Serie A. He also scored 20 goals for the Italian national side.
After his influential performance in the 1982 World Cup, Rossi said: “On one hand I felt fulfilled. I said to myself, ‘you’ve made it’,” Rossi later said about the triumph.
“On the other hand, I was disappointed that all of this just ended. The World Cup was over.
“[But] when you win something important it’s not just about the trophy. It’s about the group you win it with; it’s about your entire career that took you there.”
Paolo Rossi spent 4 successful years with Juventus, where he literally won everything there was to win.
“Forty-four was the total number of goals he scored in his wonderful Juventus period: goals thanks to which Pablito and Juve’s brought home two Scudetti, an Italian Cup and three European titles, the Cup Winners’ Cup, the European Super Cup and the Champions League.” Juventus said on their website.
“If you have found that poster of that magnificent Juve, open it, and admire it in a special way that the guy with the number nine on his shoulders would do. Because few are born like him.
Goodbye, Pablito.”
