European Club Owners Drop Out Of The ECA! The shape of European football is set to take on a whole new landscape.
12 of Europe’s best teams have opted to create an entire new competition, The European Super League. The brand new multi-billion pound tournament.
As such, owners have dropped out of the ECA (European Club Association), which represents all 246 European clubs. It is the sole such body recognised by UEFA, and has member clubs in each UEFA member association.
Manchester United has completely dropped out of the ECA.
“We will help football at every level and take it to its rightful place in the world. Football is the only global sport in the world with more than four billion fans and our responsibility as big clubs is to respond to their desires” says Fiorentino Perez, the first President of the European Super League.
Juventus President Andrea Agnelli has also resigned from his post as President of the ECA. He is now the vice-president of the European Super League.
“Our 12 Founder Clubs represent billions of fans across the globe and 99 European trophies.
“We have come together at this critical moment, enabling European competition to be transformed, putting the game we love on a sustainable footing for the long-term future, substantially increasing solidarity, and giving fans and amateur players a regular flow of headline fixtures that will feed their passion for the game while providing them with engaging role models.” Agnelli said.
Manchester United vice-chairman Joel Glazer said: “By bringing together the world’s greatest clubs and players to play each other throughout the season, the Super League will open a new chapter for European football, ensuring world-class competition and facilities, and increased financial support for the wider football pyramid.”
The new competition has been widely criticised thus far. European Club Owners Drop Out Of The ECA!
