AmaZulu duo Benni McCarthy and Veli Mothwa won the DSTV Premiership Coach and Player of the Month respectively. They scooped up the individual honours for the second successive month(s).
Sandile Zungu arrived at AmaZulu as the new Club President at the beginning of the new season. This ushered in a new breath of optimism for Usuthu.
Zungu boldly stated that he aims to win the DSTV Premiership within the next 4 years. He said that not finishing in the top 4 would be seen as a failure.
At the time, head coach was former striker Ayanda Dlamini. However, Cobra was then redeployed into the youth structures of the club.
In came Bafana Bafana all-time leading scorer Benni McCarthy into the side. Since he took over, AmaZulu shot up the DSTV Premiership table.
They now find themselves on second spot, with 3 league matches remaining. They are highly likely to finish in the top 2 positions this year.
“For the hard work, the dedication we put in every single day and to be voted by our peers it is always a special moment.” McCarthy told members of the media.
“We are forever grateful and proud. We will continue to work hard so that we can inspire the next generation of football players, the next generation of coaches but also our colleagues,” he added.
Veli Mothwa was also pleased to receive an individual honour. “I am speechless.
“It feels good, for the first time receiving an award like this. “I feel relieved that at least this season I am getting one trophy and taking it home,” the Bafana Bafana international said.
