Mngqithi Opens Up On Ronwen Williams’ Arrival At Downs
Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi said “nobody is killing anyone’s career here” when he was asked by media about the pressure that their new signing Ronwen Williams will face at the club.
Many people are concerned about the national team goalkeeper as they feel that he won’t be able to claim the first choice spot between sticks ahead of Denis Onyango and Kennedy Mweene who have been consistent for quite some time at Downs.
Mngqithi was speaking with members of the media at the launch of 2022/23 DStv Premiership season when he said as the technical team they’re not under pressure to choose who’s going to be number one.
“Nothing puts us under pressure to be honest because we have got number ones there. Kennedy was number one for Zambia with Denis, we were never under pressure. Ronwen was number one for Bafana but we don’t know whether he is going to continue because Bafana is changing week in and week out. You don’t know who is going to be there,” he said.

“So, we must just appreciate the competition that exists between these goalkeepers because all of them are top internationals. Dot forget Reyaad Pieterse who also did very well last season.”
“For Ronwen, he made a decision to join us because we wanted him there, but he knew very well that he is coming into a team where competition is very rife. Nobody must come to a club and say they killed my career. Nobody is killing anyone’s career here. People must come here and compete. Others succeed, others don’t succeed.”
“We hope he succeeds because we love him and we believe in him because he is a very good goalkeeper, “ Mgqithi added.
