Sekhukhune United drew 1-1 at home to Mamelodi Sundowns in the DSTV Premiership on Saturday afternoon. Head coach Kaitano Tembo was ambivalent after the match.
The match was a true example of a game of two halves. Mamelodi Sundowns pilled on the pressure in the first stanza and were duly rewarded with somewhat of a scrappy goal by Peter Shalulile. The hosts regrouped at halftime and equalised within a minute of the second half.
They were able to create a few more chances in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net again.
“Look you know, I had to pull the guys in the dressing room at halftime because first half we didn’t have energy,” Tembo told SuperSport TV after the encounter.
“We lost the ball cheaply and couldn’t just play. We were always waiting to react to what they do and that really put us on the back-foot.
“But second half we played with more purpose, more energy and found forward solutions going forward in terms of penetration. That’s why the first minute we scored a goal, but we should’ve also kept doing that.
“When we scored, we also went back, and we started sitting back. But we could’ve caught them in the final third especially on the transition but look we’ll take a point because we played against a very good team.
“They kept the ball a little bit better so I’m happy with the guys. We worked a little bit harder without the ball and we knew we needed to suffer for us to get a result here,” the Zimbabwean added.
