Mamelodi Sundowns take on Stellenbosch FC in their Nedbank Cup quarterfinal fixture this evening. Head coach Rulani Mokwena is braced for what seems to be a difficult task.
Masandawana were crowned DSTV Premiership Champions at the beginning of the month, without even having to kick a ball. Since returning to domestic action, they have not won a single match since winning the title.
They have drawn against Cape Town City, Swallows FC and Golden Arrows. With today’s encounter being a cup game, they cannot afford anything except a win if they are going to be in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup.
The last time these two sides met they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Danie Craven Stadium in the DSTV Premiership.
“We’ve already started with our homework and we’re still going to dig deeper for more information on them as we prepare.” Mokwena relayed to the media.
“They are a good and difficult team to play against. It’s a very important game for us and we also know how important it is to the football club.
“We know that we have to play really well in Cape Town to give ourselves a chance to win and progress to the Semi-finals
“It’s always difficult to play them (Stellies). They’re a good and very well coached side and Steve Barker is doing good work at the club.
“The log position doesn’t reflect or define their quality and performance. They’ve also got a very strong midfield with players that have great capacity to cover the ground.” He added.
