Hugo Broos Hopes He Cleared the Air with Njabulo Blom & St. Louis City! The head coach was in a war of words with the two parties.
Hugo Broos hopes that he is on good terms with St. Louis City and Njabulo Blom. This is after their miscommunication in their last international camp.
In March Bafana Bafana took on Liberia home and away in AFCON Qualifiers. Midfielder Njabulo Blom, who was called up to the 23-man squad, couldn’t make it after he tested positive for Covid-19.
This angered Broos as he claims that there was no communication from Blom and his club regarding the matter.
Now, the midfielder is in Bafana Bafana camp and Broos hopes that all of that is behind them now.
“The test was done on the Wednesday, and they only sent the test result on Saturday.” Broos told the press.
“We didn’t know (what was happening), that is why I was so angry with Njabulo, he could have called, but he didn’t. But ok, I hope now for the future it will be good.” He confirmed.
St. Louis City also went on to confirm that the midfielder would report for international duty.
“St. Louis CITY SC midfielder Njabulo Blom (jah-BOOL-oh) has been named to the South African National team,” the club announced.
“Blom will join South Africa following the conclusion of CITY SC’s match against LA Galaxy on Sunday.
“Blom, 23, returns to his national team for the first time since the November 2022 FIFA International window. He missed out on the March 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification group stage due to COVID.
“The Dobsonville, Gauteng, South African native made his South Africa National Team debut during the 2021 World Cup qualification Group G stage against Ghana on September 6, 2021.
“Blom has tallied 18 interceptions which is tied for 22nd amongst MLS midfielders. All midfielders above Blom have played at least 400+ more minutes.
“When he starts for St. Louis, CITY SC is 4-0-0 and have outscored opponents, 13-2.
“Blom and the South Africa National team will face off against Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations on June 17. This is the fourth match for South Africa in AFCON, tallying a 1-1-1 mark through the previous three group stage matches.” The club wrote.
