Inacio Miguel Describes Playing for Kaizer Chiefs as Career Highlight
Inacio Miguel, who joined Kaizer Chiefs in August 2024 from Angolan club Petro de Luanda, has opened up about his experience at the club, calling it the highlight of his professional career so far. The Portuguese-born midfielder, who has played in multiple countries including Portugal, Romania, and Latvia, has quickly become an important figure at Chiefs since his arrival.
A Career Milestone at Chiefs
Miguel, who has enjoyed an eventful start to his tenure at Chiefs, shared his admiration for the club and the passion that comes with playing for one of South Africa’s most beloved football institutions. Despite facing challenges such as serving a suspension for accumulating four yellow cards, being sent off in a match, and donning the captain’s armband, Miguel has firmly established himself as a key player.
“I have to be honest, for me, I have played professionally for 11 years, and I can say without any problem that playing for Kaizer Chiefs has brought me the most pleasure,” Miguel expressed.
He went on to elaborate on the structure and fan support that make his time at Chiefs so special. “From the structure of the club and the love that we have, wherever we play, be it Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, or Polokwane, it is amazing to play for this shirt because you are always motivated because of the love that the supporters give us.”
The Emotional Impact of the Soweto Derby
One of the highlights of Miguel’s Chiefs journey so far has been his participation in the iconic Soweto Derby. This game, which is one of the most intense and historic rivalries in African football, made a significant impression on the midfielder.
Miguel spoke candidly about the emotions he experienced before, during, and after the match. “It was my first Soweto Derby, so emotions were everywhere,” he said. “It was an amazing day for me to feel the real derby of Africa, which for me is the biggest derby on the continent.”
Although Chiefs did not secure a victory in the game, Miguel reflected on the pride he felt to be part of such a monumental event. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t make the victory, but as a first derby, I was excited and tried to give my best to help the team,” he added.
He also noted how the overwhelming presence of fans in the stadium made the experience even more electrifying. “My friend Hugo (Marques) who played in South Africa was giving me tips on how to stay calm because this is an ordinary game. It was the first game that I experienced with so many fans in the stands,” Miguel said.
Looking Ahead
As Inacio Miguel continues to settle into life at Kaizer Chiefs, his enthusiasm for the club and his career remains clear. The midfielder is determined to contribute to Chiefs’ success and is hopeful for a prosperous future with the club.
“Since the first day I arrived, it has been amazing,” Miguel concluded. “I wish that we continue this way together and achieve a lot.”
With his passion for the club and his drive to succeed, it’s clear that Miguel is ready to make the most of his time at Kaizer Chiefs and continue to be a key player in their journey forward.
