Cassius Mailula Named Wydad Athletic Club’s Player of the Month for January 2025

South African striker Cassius Mailula has been awarded a major accolade for his standout performances at Wydad Athletic Club, with the club naming him their Player of the Month for January 2025.

Wydad Athletic Club made the announcement on February 6, 2025, recognizing Mailula’s vital contributions during a successful month for the Moroccan side. The 23-year-old was instrumental in Wydad’s perfect record over three league matches, as they triumphed over Moghreb Tetouan, Union Touarga, and Difaa El Jadida, winning all of them.

Mailula played the full 90 minutes in each of these fixtures, adding a goal and an assist to his tally, further highlighting his growing influence at the club. Since joining Wydad on a season-long loan from Toronto FC, Mailula has now accumulated two goals and five assists in 20 appearances, cementing his place as one of the club’s key players.

This recognition follows Mailula’s impressive form since arriving at Wydad, with the club now eyeing the option to make his move permanent at the end of his loan spell. His performances have undoubtedly caught the attention of coach Rulani Mokwena and the club’s management, who are keen to secure his services long-term.

Mailula’s success comes as part of a growing South African presence at Wydad, as the club has also recently signed Thembinkosi Lorch on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns for the remainder of the season. Just like Mailula, Wydad holds an option to make Lorch’s deal permanent.
