Jose Riveiro Stays Silent on Monnapule Saleng’s Orlando Pirates Absence

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has opted to keep his distance from discussions surrounding Monnapule Saleng’s ongoing absence, offering little insight into the winger’s situation.

Saleng, who has contributed five goals and one assist in 13 appearances this season, has been notably absent from the Buccaneers’ match-day squads since late last year. The 26-year-old was a key player during August and September, but his appearances dwindled significantly, featuring only twice in October, once in November, and once in December before disappearing from team selections altogether.

Contract Dispute or Injury?

Speculation has emerged that contract issues may be at the heart of Saleng’s absence. However, when questioned about the player’s situation—along with general injury updates at the club—Riveiro remained firm in his stance, refusing to disclose any details.

“I don’t speak about the health of my players,” Riveiro stated. “It is something that belongs to a private space. The moment the club feels that it is the time to speak about which players are injured, how long it will take, and the process, it is not part of my job description.”

The Spanish coach emphasized that providing such updates was not his responsibility, adding that while fans and the media may be eager for information on Saleng, Olisa Ndah, and Goodman Mosele, it was a matter for the club to address at the appropriate time.

“I know it will be nice to know how close Olisa (Ndah) is, or (Goodman) Mosele, or what is happening with Saleng, but it is not going to happen,” he concluded.

Saleng’s continued absence has fueled speculation about his future, particularly with previous interest from the UAE, where a move could significantly increase his earnings.
