Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates Fined by PSL DC for Fan Misconduct

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have both pleaded guilty to charges of spectator misconduct and have been handed hefty fines by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee (DC).
Chiefs Penalized for Repeat Offence
Chiefs were charged following a missile-throwing incident at FNB Stadium during the Soweto Derby last month. Having already been found guilty of a similar offence in October, Amakhosi now face an even steeper financial penalty.
PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed that Chiefs have been fined R100,000, with R50,000 suspended for 12 months on condition they do not commit the same offence again. However, since they previously faced the same charge last year, a previously suspended R100,000 has now been triggered, bringing their total fine to R150,000.
Pirates Also Face Hefty Fine
Orlando Pirates, meanwhile, were also charged for missile-throwing incidents during their recent Betway Premiership loss to Mamelodi Sundowns. Like Chiefs, the Buccaneers pleaded guilty and were fined R100,000, with R25,000 suspended under the same 12-month condition.
However, due to a previous similar incident in November, a previously suspended R50,000 fine has now been activated, meaning Pirates will now pay a total of R125,000.
PSL Sends Warning to Clubs and Fans
Both clubs have been ordered to publish the sanctions on their official websites within seven days in an effort to deter future misconduct from their supporters.
“This type of behaviour only serves to punish the club and not the perpetrator,” Majavu emphasized, urging fans to refrain from disruptive actions that could lead to further penalties.
With these fines adding financial strain, both Chiefs and Pirates will be hoping for improved crowd behaviour to avoid further disciplinary action in the future.
