Marshall Munetsi’s Impact at Wolves: Pereira Praises Midfielder Despite Missing First Goal

With Marshall Munetsi yet to register his first goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers, manager Vítor Pereira has made an admission about the Zimbabwean midfielder’s role in the team.
Munetsi made his full debut for Wolves in their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday. The Warriors international played a crucial role in securing the win, providing the assist for Matheus Cunha’s match-winning goal. The victory pushed Wolves five points clear of the relegation zone as they continue their battle to retain Premier League status.
The 28-year-old, who arrived from Stade Reims on transfer deadline day, had previously made substitute appearances against Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool before being handed a starting berth. He completed the full 90 minutes against Bournemouth, coming close to scoring just after the hour mark but failing to convert from close range.
Speaking after the match, Pereira praised Munetsi’s contributions, emphasizing that while he has missed chances, his overall impact has been significant.
“What I’m asking him to do is to help the team as a midfielder and to appear from the back into the box,” Pereira told News Day.
“He had another chance to score, and it was not today, but every time he gets there, he has a chance to score.”
Pereira further highlighted Munetsi’s work ethic and defensive contributions, stating, “What I like about this player is that he can miss a goal in the opponent’s box and then, 30 seconds later, he is defending in our box. This is exactly what we wanted when we signed him—a physical midfielder who can support the other two midfielders.”
Munetsi’s versatility and high work rate have made him a valuable addition to Wolves’ squad, and he will be eager to make his mark when his side takes on Fulham in their upcoming Premier League fixture on Tuesday night.
