Magesi FC Still Interested in Kaizer Chiefs Defender Bongani Sam

In January, Magesi FC expressed interest in signing Kaizer Chiefs defender Bongani Sam. However, the move fell through due to Magesi’s inability to release players in time to create space for the incoming defender.
Despite this setback, sources close to both clubs and the player suggest that negotiations could resume at the end of the season, keeping the possibility of the transfer alive.
Magesi’s PSL Status and Transfer Plans
According to insiders, Magesi FC’s ability to sign Sam will depend on their status in the Betway Premiership at the conclusion of the season. The club is optimistic about remaining in the PSL, which would enable them to reopen talks with Kaizer Chiefs.
“Magesi FC are sure they will be in the PSL next season, and that’s when they will renegotiate for Bongani Sam to be signed. Though they could not sign him in January, they are still holding hope that they could sign him in the next transfer window,” an insider told the Siya crew.
Loan or Permanent Deal?
A second source confirmed that while Sam was initially considered for a loan move in January, it remains unclear whether Magesi will pursue a loan or a permanent deal in the off-season. This will largely depend on Chiefs’ willingness to sell and Magesi’s financial situation.
“For now, it’s not clear whether they would sign him on loan or permanently because they will first find out whether they are still in the PSL or not and whether Chiefs are ready to sell him permanently. The deal is still possible, and the logistics will be looked at at the right time,” the source added.
Bongani Sam’s Situation at Kaizer Chiefs
Sam joined Chiefs from Orlando Pirates at the start of the current season in a surprise transfer. However, the 27-year-old former Bloemfontein Celtic defender has yet to make an official appearance for the Glamour Boys.
Despite his club struggles, Sam has been included in Bafana Bafana’s CHAN South Africa squad by assistant coach Helman Mkhalele for upcoming matches against Egypt on February 28 and March 9. This call-up could boost his chances of securing a move when the transfer window reopens.
