Orlando Pirates Set to Extend Phillip Ndlondlo’s Contract

Orlando Pirates are reportedly close to securing midfielder Phillip Ndlondlo for another year, with the club offering him a contract extension that could keep him at the Soweto giants until June 2026.

Pirates’ Plan for Ndlondlo

According to insiders, the decision to extend Ndlondlo’s stay comes after careful consideration by the Pirates technical team, who value his experience in midfield. His current deal is set to expire in June 2025, but the club has proposed an additional year to maintain squad stability.

“Yes, it has taken a bit of time because there were other options which the club were looking at, but the technical team came up with the proposal that they would want to keep him, and that’s why the club has offered him a one-year extension,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

Possible Role in Transfer Negotiations

The decision to retain Ndlondlo may also be linked to Pirates’ pursuit of Polokwane City duo Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi. Reports suggest that Polokwane City previously expressed interest in having Ndlondlo as part of a deal for their players, and Pirates could use the extension to keep their options open.

“You remember it’s believed that Polokwane City wanted him to be part of the potential deal involving Appollis and Matuludi? That could still happen at the end of the season, but Pirates can only benefit from that if Phillip is still their player,” another source revealed.

Ndlondlo’s Pirates Journey

The 29-year-old joined Pirates from Marumo Gallants on transfer deadline day in September 2022. While his appearances this season have been limited, the club still sees value in keeping him for at least another year, either as a key squad player or as part of future transfer dealings.

With negotiations seemingly progressing well, Ndlondlo looks set to extend his time at Mayfair, giving Pirates added depth and flexibility as they plan for the future.
