Azam FC Secure Feisal Salum’s Future Amid Kaizer Chiefs Interest

Tanzanian club Azam FC have moved swiftly to secure the services of Feisal Salum, preventing a potential free transfer to Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season. The 27-year-old midfielder has signed a new 18-month contract extension, keeping him at the club until June 2026.
The decision to extend Salum’s contract comes amid growing interest from multiple clubs, including Chiefs, who were reportedly keen on reuniting the talented midfielder with their head coach, Nasreddine Nabi. The two previously worked together at Yanga SC, where Salum established himself as one of Tanzania’s top midfielders.
Azam FC Confirm Salum’s New Deal
Azam FC media officer Hasheem Ibwe confirmed the contract extension in an interview with Soccer Laduma, stating that Salum is no longer available as a free agent.
“No. He is not (going to be) a free agent. He won’t leave for free as he is still our player. He has signed a new 18-month contract,” Ibwe told the Siya crew.
While the club insists that Salum remains a key part of their plans, sources close to the player suggest that he was initially open to leaving Azam, which made the contract negotiations difficult.
Salum’s Desire to Move On?
Despite signing a new deal, sources indicate that Salum was eager to explore new opportunities, which explains why he initially rejected Azam’s first offer.
“The player had shown the desire to move on and that’s why he initially turned down the first offer from the club (Azam). But apparently, the club doesn’t want to lose him for free and that’s why they have signed him for another 18 months just to make sure he is still their player. It’s not just one team interested in him and that makes business sense for Azam to extend his stay,” a source close to the situation revealed.
Kaizer Chiefs’ Interest Remains
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has reportedly been monitoring Salum’s situation closely, hoping to lure him to Naturena. Chiefs are in the process of rebuilding their squad, and Salum’s technical ability and creativity in midfield could be a valuable addition to the team.
With Azam now in control of Salum’s future, any potential move will likely involve a transfer fee, making negotiations with interested clubs more complex. Chiefs, or any other suitor, would now have to meet Azam’s valuation if they hope to sign him before June 2026.
What’s Next for Salum?
While Azam FC have secured their asset, the midfielder’s long-term future remains uncertain. If Salum still harbors ambitions of playing elsewhere, this contract extension could serve as a way for Azam to cash in on a potential transfer, rather than losing him for free.
With Chiefs’ interest still lingering, this could be a transfer saga to watch closely in the coming months.
