Barcelona and Neymar in Talks Over Sensational Return

Barcelona and Neymar have reportedly begun discussions over a potential return for the Brazilian superstar to the LaLiga giants. The 33-year-old forward recently signed with his boyhood club, Santos, after terminating his contract with Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
Neymar joined the Saudi Pro League champions in 2023 but endured an injury-ridden spell, making only seven appearances in his one-and-a-half years at the club. Now back in Brazil, reports suggest his move to Santos is only temporary, as he eyes a return to European football before the start of the 2025/26 season.
According to The Athletic, Neymar’s short-term deal with Santos is designed to help him regain full fitness and form ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Brazilian attacker is determined to be in peak condition for the global tournament, which will be hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
Barcelona, where Neymar spent four highly successful seasons from 2013 to 2017, has emerged as his preferred destination. His representative, Pini Zahavi, has reportedly already initiated talks with the Catalan club regarding a possible reunion. Zahavi also represents key Barcelona figures, including Robert Lewandowski and head coach Hansi Flick, which could facilitate negotiations.
There is also speculation that Neymar’s contract with Santos includes a clause allowing him to leave early should a FIFA Club World Cup participant come calling. However, the Brazilian star appears keen on prioritizing a move back to the Blaugrana, where he formed one of football’s most iconic attacking trios alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez.
While it remains to be seen how Barcelona will navigate financial and squad constraints to accommodate Neymar’s return, discussions are reportedly underway, raising the possibility of an emotional comeback to the Camp Nou.
