Zamalek Break Silence on Pitso Mosimane Links Amid Coaching Uncertainty

Egyptian football giants Zamalek have addressed growing speculation linking them with South African tactician Pitso Mosimane, amid reports of possible changes in the club’s technical team following disappointing results in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Rumours have been swirling in recent weeks that Zamalek are considering parting ways with their current coach, Jose Peseiro, after the team’s shock quarterfinal exit at the hands of South African side Stellenbosch FC. The early elimination has reportedly cast doubt over Peseiro’s future, with the club’s top brass said to be exploring alternative coaching options.
Among the names believed to be under consideration is former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane, a highly respected figure in African football. The 59-year-old has remained a subject of constant interest from top clubs across the continent, thanks to his impressive track record that includes multiple domestic titles and a CAF Champions League crown.
According to reports from several African football outlets, Mosimane features prominently on a shortlist of foreign coaches being assessed by Zamalek ahead of the new season. However, the Cairo-based club has now clarified its position through a statement cited by local publication Zahraa.
“What has happened so far is nothing more than an offer from an agent, and Zamalek has not entered into any official negotiations with Mosimane yet,” a Zamalek official was quoted as saying.
This statement suggests that while there may be admiration for Mosimane’s credentials within Zamalek’s corridors of power, no formal discussions have taken place. It also confirms that the link, for now, remains speculative rather than a concrete move.
Jose Peseiro, who only took over the coaching reins at Zamalek in February on an 18-month deal, finds himself under increasing pressure. Although the club currently occupies third place in the Egyptian Premier League standings, their underwhelming continental campaign has fueled calls for change.
Mosimane, who last coached Al Wahda in the UAE, has kept a relatively low profile since leaving his post but remains a sought-after name, especially in North African football circles due to his previous success with Al Ahly.
For now, the future of both Peseiro and the potential arrival of Mosimane remains uncertain, but one thing is clear — Zamalek are actively evaluating their coaching options ahead of what promises to be a critical off-season.
