Mamelodi Sundowns to Hold Key Talks Over Kobamelo Kodisang’s Future

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to hold important discussions that could determine the future of winger Kobamelo Kodisang following a difficult season with limited game time. The 24-year-old attacker, who joined the Brazilians on a long-term contract after a successful spell in Portugal, is now facing uncertainty after completing the first year of his five-year deal.
Kodisang struggled to secure consistent minutes during the 2024/25 season and now finds himself at a crossroads. Despite high expectations following his standout performances for Moreirense in the 2023/24 campaign, where he featured in 31 of the club’s 34 league matches, his impact at Sundowns has been muted with just 12 appearances this season.
His agent, Mike Makaab, confirmed that he will be meeting with the Sundowns technical team once the club returns from the FIFA Club World Cup. The talks, scheduled to take place at the club’s Chloorkop headquarters, are expected to provide clarity on Kodisang’s next step — whether that includes staying and fighting for a place or exploring new opportunities.
“We must wait until after the Club World Cup. Once the club returns, I’ll have a meeting with the technical team at Sundowns and the football club, and we’ll look at the best option for both parties in terms of KK’s future. He has a long-term contract at the club,” Makaab told Soccer Laduma.
While a transfer has not been explicitly confirmed, Makaab did not rule out a surprise move, admitting that Kodisang’s lack of playing time was unexpected given his prior form in Europe.
“To be brutally honest, I am not sure. I have not wrapped my head around it. He only had 12 appearances, which for a player of his calibre should have been more. Don’t forget in the previous season, he played 31 out of the 34 games Moreirense played in the topflight. So, you don’t become an ordinary player overnight,” Makaab added.
Sundowns’ upcoming decision will not only shape Kodisang’s immediate future but also serve as a broader reflection of how the club manages emerging talent in a highly competitive squad. As talks loom, both parties will be aiming for a resolution that revives the winger’s career trajectory, whether in Tshwane or elsewhere.
