Kaizer Chiefs Cool Interest in Elias Mokwana as Focus Shifts to Oswin Appollis

Despite persistent speculation linking former PSL winger Elias Mokwana with a potential return to South Africa, Kaizer Chiefs insiders have moved swiftly to distance the club from these ongoing rumours. Sources within the Amakhosi camp have made it clear that the club’s attention is now firmly on other targets.
A senior figure at Naturena revealed that the club is no longer pursuing Mokwana, despite past interest. “No. Not at all. Chiefs are not interested in Elias Mokwana. If it was last season maybe it could have been true but not at the moment. Yes, the team is looking at beefing up the squad but it’s obviously not Elias Mokwana. That’s not true,” the insider told Soccer Laduma, refuting recent reports circulating in the media.
Instead, Kaizer Chiefs are actively pursuing Polokwane City winger Oswin Appollis, who has emerged as a key target for the Soweto giants. “If you were talking about Appollis I could have agreed with you. It’s an open secret that Chiefs are interested in him. The negotiations are believed to be at an advanced stage as there are a few logistics they are working on but not Elias Mokwana,” a second source close to the technical team disclosed.
Adding further clarity to the situation, Mokwana’s representatives, Cream Sports, also denied any knowledge of a potential move to Chiefs. “It’s not true. Elias Mokwana is not joining Kaizer Chiefs. There is nothing like that. I think people are having wishes, and it’s one of those disturbing stories. We have not received nor heard any word from Chiefs and I can tell you, Mokwana is still happy at Esperance,” Cream Sports confirmed.
At the start of last season, Chiefs were indeed monitoring Mokwana, but the winger ultimately secured a move to Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis. Since his arrival, Mokwana has impressed, drawing interest from top European leagues in France and the Netherlands. He is also set to represent Esperance at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the USA, a testament to his growing stature on the international stage.
As it stands, Kaizer Chiefs appear to be prioritising domestic talent in their recruitment strategy, with Oswin Appollis now the primary focus. The dynamic Polokwane City winger is seen as a player who could inject much-needed creativity and width into the Amakhosi attack — a quality the team has been eager to bolster.
For Chiefs supporters, all eyes will now be on the outcome of negotiations for Appollis as the club looks to build a squad capable of challenging for silverware in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Mokwana seems poised to continue his upward trajectory with Esperance, with little indication of a return to the PSL on the horizon.
