Sekhukhune United Secure Key Senior Players with New Contract Extensions

Sekhukhune United have officially ended speculation surrounding the futures of several senior players, including captain Linda Mntambo and vice-captain Daniel Cardoso, by confirming contract extensions ahead of the new season.
The club, affectionately known as Babina Noko, announced that both Mntambo and Cardoso have penned new deals. Joining them in extending their stay are Vusimuzi Ncube, Tresor Tshibwabwa, and Chibuike Ohizu, whose contracts were all set to expire on June 30.
The announcement comes after weeks of uncertainty, with widespread reports suggesting that some of these out-of-contract players could be heading for the exit door. However, Sekhukhune have put those rumours to rest with the latest confirmation, showing their intent to retain experience and leadership within the squad.
Despite experiencing a coaching change midway through last season, Sekhukhune still managed to secure an impressive top-four finish in the Betway Premiership. Their strong campaign saw them narrowly miss out on a spot in continental football, underlining their growth and ambition in South African football.
The decision to extend the contracts of both Mntambo and Cardoso is particularly significant, as the duo play crucial leadership roles on and off the pitch. However, with Mntambo at 35 and Cardoso at 36, new head coach Eric Tinkler will have the delicate task of managing their minutes carefully to ensure they remain fit and effective over the course of a demanding season.
Looking ahead, Sekhukhune United will kick off their new campaign with a challenging fixture against TS Galaxy in the MTN8, scheduled for August. Fans will be eager to see how the blend of experience and fresh tactics under Tinkler will shape the team’s performance in both league and cup competitions.
