Lucas Ribeiro Costa Attracts Transfer Interest After FIFA Club World Cup Heroics

The expected transfer buzz around Mamelodi Sundowns star Lucas Ribeiro Costa has officially begun following his standout performances at the recent FIFA Club World Cup. The Brazilian forward, who has been a crucial part of Sundowns’ attack, has now caught the eye of top clubs back home and abroad.

Ribeiro has been with Sundowns for two seasons and has delivered an impressive return of 60 goals and assists in just 88 appearances. His sharp eye for goal and creative playmaking have made him one of the most talked-about players in the South African Premier Soccer League.

The 26-year-old recently spoke about his future, expressing both a desire to eventually return to Brazil and gratitude for his time at Chloorkop. Ribeiro made it clear that his next move will depend on Sundowns’ decision, showing respect for the club that helped him shine on the international stage.

Reports from Brazil now reveal that two major clubs, Fluminense and Cruzeiro, have expressed strong interest in signing Ribeiro. Both teams are members of Brazil’s prestigious G-12 – a term used to describe the country’s biggest and most influential football clubs. They are preparing for the 2025 Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A season and see Ribeiro as a valuable addition to their squads.

Fluminense’s interest is particularly urgent as they look to fill the gap left by Renato Augusto’s recent departure. Several media outlets in Brazil report that both Fluminense and Cruzeiro have already made inquiries about Ribeiro’s availability and contract details.

Adding to the intrigue, Ribeiro’s agent has authorized Brazilian representatives to actively offer his services to clubs in Brazil, opening the door for more transfer discussions as the Brazilian transfer window opens this July.

However, a move back home is not the only option on the table. A club in Qatar is also in advanced talks with Ribeiro and is reportedly ready to meet Sundowns’ €2.5 million (approximately R52 million) asking price. The Qatari club is said to be offering a lucrative deal that would be hard to ignore.

Ribeiro’s career journey has seen him develop through the youth ranks of Sampaio Correa, Moto Club, and Pinheiros before testing himself in Europe with stints in France and Belgium. His arrival at Sundowns marked a turning point, where he evolved into a fan favorite and a key figure in the team’s domestic and continental campaigns.

As the July transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on whether Ribeiro makes a high-profile return to Brazil, opts for a financially rewarding move to Qatar, or remains with Sundowns to continue his remarkable run in South African football.
