Orlando Pirates Eye Enock Sakala Jnr as New Striking Option in Pre-Season Camp

Orlando Pirates appear to be strengthening their attacking department with the possible addition of Zambian striker Enock Sakala Jnr. The 23-year-old forward has been spotted at the Buccaneers’ pre-season camp at Sturrock Park in Johannesburg, although the club is yet to make any official announcement regarding his signing.

Training footage from the camp shows Sakala involved with the rest of the squad, hinting that a potential move could be in the works. The former Chippa United striker joined the East London club earlier this year and made six appearances in the latter half of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season, scoring one goal. While his time with Chippa was brief, his physical presence—standing over 1.85 meters tall—makes him a notable addition.

If signed, Sakala will enter an already competitive striker lineup at Pirates. Tshegofatso Mabasa and Evidence Makgopa currently lead the attack after solid performances last season. Zakhele Lepasa, who has returned to full training, remains part of the setup despite ongoing speculation about a possible move away. Boitumelo Radiopane is also pushing for a breakthrough but has yet to cement his place in the first team.

The Buccaneers are expected to travel to Spain this week to intensify their pre-season preparations. The club has scheduled four friendly matches between 11 and 19 July as part of their European training tour.

With Sakala’s inclusion in training and the club’s tradition of quietly evaluating talent before confirmation, fans will be watching closely to see if the young Zambian forward earns a permanent spot in the squad.
