Elias Mokwana Back in South Africa as Interest Abroad Intensifies

Elias Mokwana has returned to South Africa, sparking renewed speculation about his future as clubs from across the globe continue to track the in-demand winger. The 25-year-old, who currently plies his trade for Tunisian powerhouse Esperance Sportive de Tunis, is in the country attending to personal matters, but his presence has added fuel to transfer rumours surrounding him.

According to sources close to the player, Mokwana’s visit to Mzansi is strictly for family-related reasons, with his commitment to Esperance remaining intact. He is expected to return to Tunisia by Sunday. Despite that, talk of a possible move abroad refuses to die down, with interest growing steadily from clubs in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

A well-placed insider told Soccer Laduma that while there have been discussions behind the scenes, no formal offers have been submitted as yet. “Elias was busy with family matters. He is going back on Sunday, and that’s the truth. There are teams that are interested in the player and the parties are busy talking. However, nothing formal has happened yet. He is still part of the team,” the source confirmed.

Mokwana, who rose to prominence with Sekhukhune United before sealing a high-profile move to Esperance last year, has quickly become one of South Africa’s top football exports. His combination of pace, technical skill, and relentless work rate has earned him plaudits not only in Tunisia but also on the international stage, where he has featured for Bafana Bafana.

His impact in North Africa has not gone unnoticed, with scouts reportedly keeping tabs on him during both domestic and CAF Champions League fixtures. While his contract with Esperance runs until 2027, growing demand may soon force the Tunisian giants to consider offers.

Mokwana’s agent, Pontsho Madumo, also confirmed the player’s current location. “Yes, Elias is in South Africa to sort out some family matters. That’s all there is to it at this stage,” he told the Siya crew.

As the transfer window gains momentum, Mokwana’s name is likely to remain a hot topic. Whether a move materialises this season or in the near future, it’s clear that the Free State-born talent is on the cusp of a major career breakthrough that could see him make the leap to Europe or beyond.
